business casual shoes for winter,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Should you work in an office environment where the dress code is business casual or even more strict,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], how do you handle winter months with respect to your shoes and pants? I know salt coating shoes and also the bottom of dress pants and both getting soaked.
You might need just to walk a few blocks. Sidewalks are shoveled to various degrees - some covered in a few inches of snow,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], some with ice,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], some with slushy snow and sand - also it all sounds like trouble for newly polished sports shoes.
Like a commuter and living in the NE you pretty learn what streets are plowed/shovelled and how to dress,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Additionally you tend not to care clothing heading in and venturing out so making a fashion statement in crappy weather conditions are a non issue.
Footwear Options
-Overshoes (rubber slip ons which go within the dress shoe) - issue is these dont last too long
-duck boot (something having a rubber bottom and wool insert)
note: you could bring your shoes inside a backpack/bag and alter when you get into the office,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
OverCoat
-3 or 4 in a single Parka
-3/4 length wool topcoat
-London Fog trench w liner
Thermals - I have not required to wear thermals/underarmor under pants. Undershirt/boxers were more than enough
Accessories - wool knit hat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], leather/ski gloves,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],wool/cashmere scarf,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],umbrella
I wasn't above rolling my pants cuff's up either,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I'd a couple elastic strips I made use of which had snaps to roll my pants cuffs tight around my ankles when it had been wet and nasty
out side and I feared getting my pants wet or brine splashed on them,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. It's my job to used them when riding my motorcycle on longer trips to maintain the pants cuffs from flapping within the breeze,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. (it can get annoying on a long trip) And so i used them on those days,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. After i reached the doorway I'd put one foot a few steps up above of the other
and bend to unsnap one and so the other cuff. After i reached my desk I'd change shoes.
My only worry was being in a car wreck or break up during the commute,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where I would be stranded and have just to walk some distance in deep snow.
This thread makes me thankful I am a woman. In the winter, I wear long boot (as much as my knees) either having a dress,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or I tuck my pants into my boots.
First of all,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], make sure you are wearing dress boots in the winter,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not dress shoes. Men's dress boots typically reach the ankle, and will prevent your socks from getting wet. Also,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], IMO,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a man looks silly wearing sports shoes within the snow/winter months.
Second, make sure you spray your boots using the leather protecting spray. It prevents the salt from staining your boots.
Third, if it's really snowy, consider wearing slush pants over your pants,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or wearing sweat pants and changing into your pants when you get to work. If you want to do that, get a good garment bag to consider along with you, so your pants don't get wrinkled.
