Several months ago I "inherited" a collection of old National Geographic Magazines from the 60's and 70's. Can you imagine what the poor mountains would be like if we could camp anywhere we please!? When I was 5or6 yrs old we camped in a pretty clearing at the side of River Road in Metcalf Bottoms. My Dad and older brothers and cousins camped at Millsaps on River Road. People can be a "bit" messy!
Newfound Gap Road used to have serious bear jams like the Cove. Several of the roadside pull-offs had garbage cans and the bears woul come through and turn them over to eat "whatever" and cause big jams.
