EC says negotiations have not stopped unsustainable fishing practices
BRUSSELS, Aug. 20 () -- The European Commission said Tuesday it placed restrictions on the Faroe Island fishing industry to protest the country's unsustainable fishing practices.The Faroe Islands, a self-governing island group between Norway and Iceland,[url=http://www.leedpe.com/]louboutin shoes sale[/url], is aligned with Denmark.The European Commission said it had moved to ban imports of herring and mackerel, including fish products that include those two species,[url=http://www.leedpe.com/]christian louboutin sale[/url], from the islands.The commission also said it would ban the use of EU ports by Faroe Island vessels fishing for herring and mackerel."This means that some Faroese vessels will not be allowed to dock in EU ports, except in cases of emergency," the commission said in a statement.The restrictions will be in effect seven days after as public notice of the restrictions are published, the commission said.The commission said Faroe Island fishing practices considered unsustainable continued despite attempts at negotiating an agreement. "The Faroese refused to end their unsustainable fishing of the stock," the commission said.
