and Alberta and 42,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 hectares within the emerging Duvernay shale in Alberta.
"This acquisition will add significant liquids-rich resources to the existing North American unconventional portfolio,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Andrew Barry,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], president of ExxonMobil Canada.
Celtic says the offer is going to be subject to review under the Investment Canada Act. This is the same legislation under which Industry Minister Christian Paradis is reviewing China National Offshore Oil Co.'s $15.1-billion offer for Calgary-based oil and gas producer Nexen Inc. to find out whether the deal is of net help to Canada. The prospect of a Chinese state-owned entity controlling a Canadian resource company has become a major political flashpoint in recent weeks. Last week,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Ottawa extended its review of the Nexen takeover with a month.
ExxonMobil has been active in Canada because the 1940s,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. gas giant XTO,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"We've been doing a substantial amount of growth since our agreement with XTO here in the United States several years ago. What we should got with XTO was sort of the expertise and the technology,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said ExxonMobil spokesman Alan Jeffers within an interview from Texas.
In recent years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], ExxonMobil has snapped up acreage in other shale formations throughout The united states,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], like the Bakken in North Dakota and the Marcellus within the northeastern United States,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Jeffers added.
The properties that ExxonMobil is acquiring from Celtic produce 72 million cubic feet daily of gas and 4,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 barrels per day of crude,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], condensate and natural gas liquids.
In the face of prolonged low gas prices,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], producers have been targeting zones rich in natural gas liquids - an important feedstock towards the petrochemical and plastics industries - more closely track oil prices than those of ordinary dry gas.
"We've said very consistently that our long-term look at gas is it's the fastest-growing fuel source,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Jeffers. "We've recently,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], just because from the premium on liquids,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], concentrated on liquids,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but we're still producing gas,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we're still acquiring gas and liquids helpful information on development."
