Chemring unveils new device to disable explosive devices
ROMSEY,Christian Louboutin Sale, England, April 17 () -- Development of a new, lighter weight water-jet disruptor for disabling explosive devices has been announced by Chemring EOD of Britain. The WASP, which can be carried by an individual or mounted on a robot, fires an explosively propelled jet of water to disrupt the bomb's circuitry. It weighs about 1.6 pounds fully loaded -- about one-third the weight of the Pigstick developed in Britain in the late 1970s.Chemring EOD, part of the Chemring Group, said the device can be deployed using its own lightweight stand or, with an adaptor, a tripod when operated by dismounted troops."WASP has been specifically designed to meet the needs of EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) operators where the pace of operations requires a minimal weight burden but still needs an effective and highly reliable (improvised explosive device) disruption system," said Chemring EOD General Manager Mike Luedicke. "While WASP offers a significant size and weight advantage to users, it still maintains optimum disruptive effect for a wide range of IEDs."
