"Kids' bodies are still developing, and they have softer bones, so it's very important to get shoes with proper cushioning. I see a lot of kids with injuries from not wearing the right shoes," said Dickerson, 44, a Woodbridge resident who races competitively.
The 1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000-square-foot store carries supplies for walkers, new runners, advanced runners and "everyone in between," Dickerson said. Brands include Adidas, Asics,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Brooks,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Mizuno,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], New Balance and Saucony.
Sneakers range from $80 to $140; T-shirts and shorts from $20 to $40. The store also has outerwear, reflective gear,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], injury aids and heart-rate monitors.
This is the third location for the chain of stores. The Woodbridge Running Co. opened in 1999, and ,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in Massachusetts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], opened in 2005.
Dickerson sees the Brookfield location as a replacement for the former Road Track Sports in Brookfield,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which closed this winter.
"When it closed I felt there would be a void for runners, and I didn't want them to have to travel to get their shoes," he said.
"I've purchased running shoes and apparel at the Woodbridge store for a decade. They're a real runner's running store that always carries all the products I need," said of Branford,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], owner of , an events management company that organizes running and fitness events in the state.
In the past two years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Dickerson said, he's seen a slight increase in sales.
"We haven't felt the economic (downturn). I think this has to do with the way people view running. When people get stressed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they need an outlet. Running is a relatively inexpensive,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], easy thing to do in the movement to be healthier."
