An unexpected flash mob descended on Broadway Avenue today, announcing the third annual ManyFest in downtown Winnipeg. Billed as Winnipeg's biggest downtown street party,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the festival will feature tons of entertainment, art,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], dancing in the streets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a marketplace, wine and cheese and a giant movie in Memorial Park. This year's film is Dreamworks' How To Train Your Dragon.
"If we can put it into a weekend, we did," says Tricialynn Morgan,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], events coordinator. New this year is MiniFest Kids' Zone for the younger set.
The festival is about celebrating community and active living,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], too. So pull out your running shoes for a race or your bike for "ciclovia" on Sunday. The 10 10 Race includes a 10 kilometer race,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 10 mile race and five kilometer family fun run. Ciclovia takes cyclists,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], runners and walkers from Assiniboine Park to the Forks along the car-free streets.
On Saturday evening the big highlight will be Lights on Broadway with the inaugural living "Parade of Lights." You can participate by picking up a candle or lighting up your bike at one of the lighting stations and joining in the parade,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], taking in performances along the way.
"With events like ManyFest,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we're seeing communities become more active, more engaged, excited about our downtown and all it has to offer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," says Stefano Grande,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], executive director of the Downtown BIZ. "This festival is just another opportunity to celebrate and be proud of our city and be proud of our downtown."
Nereo Eugenio gave a demonstration of his "live art" at today's media event and will be participating in ManyFest this weekend. He enjoys creating art in front of a live audience. "It exposes everyone to our dynamic, diverse culture in Winnipeg,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he says. "I think we have a lot of interesting people, interesting characters.
