Shop owner hits out after thieves target 11 stores in Taverham
Eleven shops were targeted in a crime spree at Taverham Nursery Craft Country Shopping Centre,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in Fir Covert Road, during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Windows were smashed and items stolen from stores ranging from sports retailers to cafés and a second hand clothing store,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Thieves threw a large concrete plant pot through the window of sports retailer Sportlink and took money from the till. Owner Neil Featherby arrived at 1.15am, to find the centre strewn with goods such as shoes, clothing, sweets and bags. Mr Featherby said: "Most have had their businesses broken into. We couldn't open Tuesday. There was gear left all over the place. You've got places like Langham Glass which does a lot of teaching. To rob them is ridiculous. Everyone feels for everyone up here. You've got people who work seven days a week; we've got no more money than anybody else."
Mavis Lambert owns Pamela Jane's Traditional Sweet Shop,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. She could not set foot in it on Tuesday because the floor was covered in smashed goods.
The thieves stole a total of £12 in cash from the shop,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the cost to Mrs Lambert for the damaged stock is more than £1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],500, plus a lost day's trading for the Tuesday.
Her shop was trashed, with toys,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], appliances and fittings being broken,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sweets poured on the floor and ice creams from the fridge thrown around.
Mrs Lambert,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who is in her sixties and manages the shop on her own,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], said: "I'm pig sick. We have to work really hard in shops at the moment. I'm not often lost for words,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but it's just mindless vandalism. They're after money but is there any need to trash people's businesses?
"They're not going to make any money from what they took from me, but I've lost a lot of money. I have to replace Christmas stock; it's not something you can do with at this time of the year."
A police spokesman said: "Items stolen include handbags, shoes, Royal Doulton figures, clothing and dolls house kits.
