Find out what you missed overnight in our Monday Sports Fix,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
NADAL A MONTY FOR FRENCH OPEN
Tennis: HE MIGHT be the world No.2,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but there's no disputing who the top player on the ATP Tour is right now, with Rafael Nadal wrapping up an unprecedented seven straight Barcelona Open title.
Meanwhile,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Maria Sharapova wiped any memory of her Australian Open destruction at the hands of world No.1 Victoria Azarenka with a 6-1 6-4 demolition of her own at the Stuttgart tournament.
Azarenka battled a wrist injury and never looked likely against the Russian in a spiteful encounter that included a moment where both players charged into each other at one change of ends,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
CRASH CAN'T STOP GOSS
Cycling: GOOD luck finding a cyclist with a smile on his face after a high speed crash,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but at least Matt Goss has a green jersey to soothe his road rash.
Goss went down with a number of riders in the last 3km of the final stage at the Tour of Turkey, but held on to win the sprint competition after second-placed fellow Aussie Mark Renshaw finished outside the top 15.
Former track star Theo Bos won the stage after teammate Renshaw shelved his own green jersey chances by leading the Dutchman out,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Bulgarian Ivalio Gabrovski finished safely with the bunch to wrap up the overall Tour victory,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Fair to say Goss had a few choice words for the riders who caused the crash: "It's like I said at the Tour Down Under,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], some riders seem to close their eyes and go for sprints with no respect for the others."
TORRES HAT-TRICK SETS UP QPR ROUT
Soccer: FORTY-SIX seconds was all it took for Chelsea to kick Queens Park Rangers into next week - and next week could be the beginning of the end of QPR's bid to avoid relegation.
Fernando Torres scored three times after Daniel Sturridge opened proceedings inside the first minute of play,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with Chelsea slamming home four goals in the first 25 minutes before going on to complete a 6-1 thrashing.
The result leaves QPR above the relegation zone on goal difference alone with two matches remaining, one of which is against the red-hot boys over at Manchester City.
In other matches, Tottenham Hotspur revived their bid for Champions League football by returning to the EPL's top four with a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.
POWER PUSHED IN BRAZIL
IndyCar: GOOD THINGS came in threes - twice - for Will Power at the Sao Paulo 300 this morning, with the Aussie driver winning his third consecutive race this season and third in a row at the Brazilian track.
Power captured his 18th career win and extended his points lead,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but he was almost brought undone by a restart with four laps to go.
American Ryan Hunter-Reay got the jump on the Aussie and Power said he had to "just go like you wouldn't believe to get through those first few corners" and cling on to his lead,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Hunter-Reay finished second,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with ex-Formula One driver Takuma Sato taking third.
STONER HAILS HIS 'GREATEST RACE'
MotoGP: CASEY Stoner said he was too unfit to win a MotoGP race a fortnight ago,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so either he was foxing or he's hit the training track harder than anyone in history to set up his win at the Spanish MotoGP last night.
Stoner produced a beautiful move on the 25th lap to overtake both 2010 world champion Jorge Lorenzo and take the lead,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which he held to the finish to record his 17th consecutive podium finish.
VID OF THE DAY
IN KEEPING with the motorsport flavour, here's a bit of action from earlier in the day in Spain, where Moto3 rider Jakob Kornfeil might have needed a change of tactics (and underwear) after looking certain to flip his bike but remaining on board in spectacular style.
OTHER SPORT YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED
Basketball: TONY Parker poured in 28 points and Tim Duncan added 17 to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 106-91 wins over the Utah Jazz in the opening game of their NBA Western Conference playoff series. The Spurs, top seeds in the Western Conference after closing the season on a 10-game win streak,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], will host to Utah in game two of the best-of-seven series later this week.相关的主题文章:
