THE recent death of Nellie Merrick, Mount Street, Claremorris, evoked much sadness and regret in the town and countryside. Nellie was blessed with a lovely disposition which endeared her to more and more people. Nellie was one of a family of six born to John and Celia (nee Byrne) Donnellan in Loughanamon. Nellie worked for a while in Merrick Shoe Shop in Claremorris and later married Tom Merrick. These were the most popular couple in the area through the years and raised a fine group of two sons and 2 daughters. Tom died back in 1986, a relatively child in his mid-60s.
Nellie life was always about people. She'd a tremendous rapport with individuals and was always among the first to welcome new folks to the town. It was simple to feel at home in her own presence, she exuded a light warmth that individuals could sense right away.
She was symbolic of Claremorris Swimming Pool where she worked in a voluntary capacity in the office for several years. Like a member of the pool committee, she took an energetic interest in all matters concerning the pool and was immensely proud of the numerous notable achievements of a lot of club members down through the years.
Nellie gave adult classes for swimmers for many years and loved to see people make progress in the water. She willed them on and encouraged them at every opportunity to try and get just as much enjoyment from the pool as she did herself. They responded to her with enthusiasm for she could always obtain the best from people.
Golf was another sport which was near to her heart. The Merrick family in Mount Street were built with a long association using the club going way back in time.
A deeply religious lady, Nellie was actively associated with the St Colman Church where she served like a member of the Altar Society. She attended the regular Holy Hour for many years and was a daily Mass attendee. Her faith was a central part of her life and she or he personified so much of the gospel message through her exemplary life and her devotion and commitment to her community.
Nellie loved her family coupled with an excellent rapport with her grandchildren. They all loved to come and visit her in Mount Street and she or he loved to see them too,[url=http://duveticapiumini.olimx.com/][b]Duvetica piumini italy online[/b][/url].
The passing of Nellie Merrick will be regretted by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She would be a gracious, amicable and most good-natured lady who touched the lives of many by her gentle and reassuring presence. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
Removal took place from Gilligan Funeral Home to Claremorris Church with interment in St Colman Cemetery following Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr Peter Gannon and assisted by Fr John O and Fr Eamon Concannon.
