Boston Los Angeles Lakers Hater,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
While free agent point guard Derek Fisher met with Miami Heat team president Pat Riley on Saturday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], today,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Jordan Farmar packed his bags and is heading to the New Jersey Nets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], possibly leaving the Los Angeles Lakers running out of options to sign a point guard.
Farmar signed a three-year,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], $12 million contract to back up Devin Harris. Since the Nets still have over $30 million salary cap space,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they can afford to improve the point guard position to complement the rising star Harris.
It is not so much that the Lakers don't care about their point guards,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], maybe their point guards don't care about playing for them.
Why on earth would Farmar sign with the 12-win New Jersey Nets? Because Farmar wanted to be with a club who actually wanted him and more dough. Although,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Farmar making four million dollars to be a back-up point guard is a bit of a stretch for a player who was rather inconsistent defensively,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but anyone backing up Harris is an upgrade comparing to Keyon Dooling or even Rafer Alston when he was there.
Why would Fisher consider on joining the Heat anyway? Because he thinks that they may have a better chance to win with the three superstars LeBron James,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Who wouldn't want to play for Pat Riley? Winners play for Riley and that is Fisher is the definition of a winner.
Lakers fans have been frustrated with Fisher's play as much as they have beloved him and rightly so. Fisher can be extremely frustrating because he sometimes takes dumb shots, forces bad passes and gets killed on the pick-and-roll defense,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but on the other hand,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he makes clutch shots.
The Lakers franchise has been very fortunate when it comes to point guards because they had two of the arguably best guards/forwards in NBA history with Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Jerry West at different time frames,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Playing for a club that had those two guys would be hard to please anybody.
The bottom line is,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], no one is "Magic" Johnson or Jerry West. The Lakers have to accept that and bring in somebody who can play their game and help the team. Steve Blake was a pretty good signing, but Mike Miller could have been a better signing. Anybody is better than Smush Parker or Jordan Farmar. It's still early into free agency,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but this is the time when teams have to treat their players like gold and take them back.
The Lakers don't need to panic because they have Kobe Bryant and head coach Phil Jackson. When you have Kobe and Phil at the helm, nature will always take it's course. Things always falls into place for the Lakers. When hasn't it?
