CU holds grand opening of new practice facility,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Buffaloes young and old lined Regent Drive Saturday to celebrate the newest addition to the University of Colorado,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. CU volleyball and men and women's basketball teams have an outstanding new facility to practice in as they enter their inaugural year in the Pac-12.
The grand opening began with a pep-rally that included the band playing the fight song and many other Buff fan favorites,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Senior women's administrator and former women's basketball coach Ceal Barry gave a pre-tour speech describing the day as very significant for CU athletics. Barry explained athletic director Mike Bohn's six year instrumentation in turning the practice facility into a reality,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].

Barry also thanked everyone involved, from the designers and construction workers to Chancellor Phillip DiStefano and last but not least,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the donors that made the project possible.
After a season of construction (including 14,300 cubic yards of mass excavation) that caused Buff fans to go a little out of their way to enter the Coors Events Center, Barry noted, "Today, it's going to be worth it."
DiStefano added that the new facility befits the Buffaloes' entry into the Pac-12 and CU's position as a top caliber program.
The practice facility has been honored with LEED Platinum certification, an internationally recognized green building certification system. As of August 2011, only 557 buildings in the world (473 in the United States) have met the platinum standard,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which is the highest possible standard.
Fourteen buildings on campus have been LEED certified. The practice facility, the Systems Biotechnology and Williams Village are the three buildings on campus that meet the platinum standard,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of which only 31 other buildings in higher education have met nationwide. The facility joins the University of Florida's west stadium expansion as the only other athletic facility to meet this standard.
The facility is 43,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 square feet, including two 11,000 square foot practice courts that have the exact dimensions of the court inside the CEC. Each gym has eight baskets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], allowing them to be used as one full court,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], four half-courts or six 3-on-3 shooting areas. On both gyms, volleyball can be set up with one court lengthwise or two crosswise.
The upper gym will be used as the club room on basketball game days for donors and season ticket holders. A balcony overlooks the lower gym.
New offices and a new women's basketball locker room are other additions to the facility,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Plenty of CU athletes, including members of the volleyball, basketball and football teams,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], were on hand to answer questions and sign autographs. (Women's basketball guard/forward Brenna Malcolm-Peck said that she should be able to play this season after being sidelined last year with a hyper-extended left knee.
