Gomes drives in go-ahead run in seventh, lifting Boston over Jays 7-5
BOSTON, June 28 () -- A pinch-hit single by Jonny Gomes snapped a seventh-inning tie Friday and helped push Boston to a 7-5 victory over Toronto.The Blue Jays lost for the fourth time in five games following their 11-game winning streak.Boston produced 15 hits in winning its fourth straight game, but the Red Sox let a five-run lead slip away before regaining the advantage in the seventh.After Edwin Encarnacion homered to lift Toronto into a tie in the top of the seventh, Shane Victorino and Dustin Pedroia opened the bottom half of the inning with singles off Neil Wagner (1-2).Brett Cecil replaced Wagner and struck out David Ortiz, but a wild pitch advanced the runners and Mike Napoli drew a walk to load the bases.Gomes came up to bat for Daniel Nava and drilled a 3-1 pitch to left that brought home Victorino with the go-ahead run.
