RWE extends commitment to Egypt with Disouq gas production
CAIRO, Sept. 11 () -- Natural gas production from the eastern Niger Delta in Egypt marks a first for German energy company RWE Dea,Cheap Christian Louboutin, a chief officer said.RWE said it started its first gas production from its Disouq concession in the eastern Nile Delta. It's the first natural gas project to be brought into production by the company as an operator."We have until today produced oil as operator in the Gulf of Suez for almost 40 years and are now proud to be able to extend our long-term commitment in Egypt to include our own-operated gas production in Disouq," Dirk Warzecha, chief operating officer, said in a statement Tuesday. The company said gas production would increase from an initial state of around 49 million cubic feet per day to a peak production level of approximately 140 million cubic feet per day by the middle of next year.RWE said gas from Disouq would feed the growing energy market in Egypt. Energy woes and general economic problems were sources of frustration for ousted President Mohamed Morsi. His administration was removed by the military in July and deadly protests followed in August.BP announced the discovery of natural gas in the Nile Delta region earlier this week. Rival BG Group, which scaled back Egyptian operations because of unrest, michael kors outlet online, said its short-term production targets weren't met because of the violence.
