Schalke 04 coach Mirko Slomka has been offered a two-year contract extension which [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] will run till the end of the 2008/09 season, the Bundesliga leaders said on Thursday.
Slomka has led the 1997 UEFA Cup champions to a six-point lead in the German league after 21 matches.
Royal Blues' general manager Andeas Muller met Slomka late on Wednesday to [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] talk about his future and said: "We have agreed a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] deal at every level and will formally finalise this discussion in the next two or three weeks but I do not see anything which could prevent the signature of a new contract."
The 39-year-old Slomka took the post in January last year in place of Ralf [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Rangnick, for whom he had been an assistant. At the start of the season he had been severly criticised by supporters before taking them to top spot in November, then again in January.
Schalke, on a run of six victories and unbeaten in 12, are six points clear of second-placed Werder Bremen and, more significantly, 11 points in front of Bayern Munich in fourth. Schalke's seventh and last German league title came in 1958.
